Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade, it may increase the rarity of an item, or its Mark Level, and also boost other stats.

Upgrading gear in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests Each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specified amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's stats base increases when it is upgraded. This is the sum of all the upgraded advantages (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades can be expensive, dependent on who you employ and what you decide to do. This is due to how many perks must be replaced in order for the item to be upgraded.

It is also used to enforce gating requirements when waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It also serves to limit how much PvP gear players can use, since PvP is limited at lower levels. Players can view their average item level in their character sheet.

When deciding whether to buy or sell equipment, players can compare the levels of the item. It's a good indicator of the quality of an item and how much damage it is capable of causing. Comparing items from a vendor's stock is possible using the item's level.

On your PC, you can see the level of the item by pressing ALT or using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the item's full description, including ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are a few theories about how the calculation of the item's level is made. One theory is that the item level is a number that comes from a formula which calculates the amount an item's stats are worth. It takes into consideration that different benefits are valued differently and that gems found in sockets increase the item's value.  item upgrading  can result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl which is typically close to Blizzard's actual item level.

This is not the only thing that affects the level of an item. The level of the area where the item dropped can also change its stats. For example, it could add a level to the item's haste, or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level situations will have a higher ilvl.

Item Stats

Item stats are a big component of what makes or breaks an item for players. The game uses a variety of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the best." The base stats on a weapon are boosted by the weapon's stat modifications which are then enhanced by the player's level.

Item upgrades add to that by increasing certain stats of the item. The rarity of an item determines its upgrade cost. For instance, a gray or white item can only be upgraded once, whereas an item with the rare levels will be upgraded multiple times with higher prices.

Affixes can also be used to alter the stats of an item. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and are available in all shapes and sizes. The affixes can provide the item extra damage, or add a unique capability to the item (such as reviving dead or cutting down the cooldowns), or make the item unique by adding an exclusive name to the item.

At present, all affixes can be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button with the arrows that circle. It will cost a set amount in gold and items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges similar to other methods of rerolling.

In addition to the possibility of rerolling affixes, players may select which stats to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The range of stats determined by the item's level. However, all items will contain at least one stat in that range unless they are an item that is unique or an item that has a God Roll from a boss in a raid.

This is another thing that could be altered by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes, or selecting which stats to increase. Like the base equipment, this would have to be done per item, and the item comparison interface will not show all possible stats simultaneously.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player boosts the probability of obtaining items and the properties that are spawned by loot and the intensity of these properties. However, it does not directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It merely gives the player a possibility to obtain better equipment in earlier waves and is thus more useful in the early game than in later ones, as most players prioritize greater weapon scaling and defense over the raw damage gain.

In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chances of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading that increases with each item level and can be further increased by using an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons come with an initial Luck value of 40. These items can be improved with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on the type of material) to add another 40 luck or to boost the luck of the item to 140.

Additionally, certain items, like the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow, can be equipped to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items can be bought in the shop, or they can be made using the correct ingredients.

item upgrading  to items are a costly process and not every upgrade will be successful. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to increase their chance of success or stop themselves from losing an item in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful.

The success rate of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limits to how much success rates can be increased, and the overall chance of a failed upgrade cannot be greater than 100%..

The Luck of an item may affect the success of an upgrade. Each item has an initial success rate of 25% and every item that has Luck increases the chance of success by an additional 5%.

Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the inventory items which means that enchantment glints and other effects can be masked by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
